Why is apartment culture evolving in Lahore?
The new state-of-the-art project of Riseonics, Riseonic Heights is in high demand in Lahore. Despite it being an apartment building, a lot of people have shown their interest in registering for the luxury 1 & 2 bed apartments. The proves a fact that the people of Lahore are changing their way of thinking about houses and are adapting well to the new apartment living style.
In the past, apartments were largely confined to Karachi in Pakistan, whereas the people of Lahore and Islamabad mainly preferred to reside in houses. But the rapid urbanization, these cities are becoming overwhelmed, the land prices here are skyrocketing and more people are now choosing to live in an apartment than a house.
Most of the apartments in Lahore are often located in prime but luxurious locations. The cost of flats is lower and affordable with a small investment. In addition, electricity and other power bills are usually low, with minimal maintenance costs.
There are many reasons for this rise in the trend:
Population Rise
In the past years, the population of Lahore has increased immensely. The current metro area population of Lahore in 2022 is 13,542,000, a 3.41% increase from 2021. The main reason for this sudden increase is that people from all over the country are moving to Lahore for the sake of better education and job opportunities. But unfortunately, the city boundaries have not been pushed enough to accommodate its inhabitants.
Populous cities usually fix this situation by switching to vertical mode, which is apparently what Lahore did.
Cost
The main benefit of buying an apartment is fewer taxes to pay than that of the house. Investment in real estate has become available even to small investors. Not to mention the fact that living in an apartment building is much more profitable. You can save on gas, water, electricity, and monthly rent bills. Since a smaller area is easier to cool and heat, you will have to run air conditioners and heaters for a relatively shorter period.
Maintenance
Sophisticated apartment buildings offer many systems for management that can save your time in this busy schedule. With school, work and other responsibilities, people are rarely left with enough time to hang out with their families. In this situation, spending extra time on the upkeep of one’s home is almost impossible.
Obviously, flats are much easier to maintain than houses. For starters, there are no front gardens or backyards for you to tend to – which could be somewhat of a disadvantage if you love gardening. However, you can always start your own vertical garden to save up on space.
Secondly, most building owners charge a certain maintenance fee from their residents. Therefore, you can just call and ask them to deal with whatever plumbing or electric wiring problem you might be facing.
Moreover, since flats are usually smaller, they are also much easier to clean. You also don’t have to worry about painting or the upkeep of the exterior walls. It is the responsibility of the property manager to look after them.
Of course, there are certain advantages and disadvantages to living in an apartment. However, the apparent increase in the number of sky-high towers and luxury apartments in Lahore proves the new generation is opting for a different style of living than their elders.
Social Life
Unfortunately, today no one has the time to personally socialize with others. Apart from the people you see every day at work or school, your interaction with your distant family members and friends must most likely be limited to Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
In an apartment building, you are bound to see people living in the flats next to yours several times a day. Meanwhile, people living in separate houses don’t necessarily run into their neighbours daily. This gives you more chances to interact with others residing in the same building. If you manage to form good relations with your neighbours, it will undoubtedly create a healthy environment while providing excellent networking and socializing opportunities.
Facilities
Under one roof, the apartment buildings offer many different amenities like gymnasium, swimming pools, café, gaming rooms, cinemas and many more.
Maybe this is one of the main reasons for people choosing the apartment lifestyle more now-a-days.
Security
There is strength in numbers and that is probably the biggest perk of community living. Since people living in flats are much privier to what’s happening next door, it would be relatively difficult for a robber to get in and out without being completely noticed.
Although safety is not always a guarantee as people living in apartments must have seen their fair share of security troubles, a residential building with over a dozen of families is considerably safer than a house with four residents. Moreover, the higher the flat is in a building, the less likely it is to be broken in.
In addition, most apartment complexes have a boundary wall and a security guard at the main entrance. This makes it a much safer place for children to play and run around.
